Abstract
Colchicine metaphase-arrest techniques indicated that, in normal Fischer rats, mitotic activity in the epithelium of the urinary bladder had a circadian rhythm. After N-[4-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-2-thiazolyl]formamide was fed to the rats for 4 weeks, this circadian rhythm was no longer found. In addition, the mitotic activity did not differ significantly between the various histologic types of bladder carcinoma produced in rats fed this compound for 25 weeks. The mitotic indices of tumors differed markedly from those of the adjacent nontumorous epithelium. Keywords
