Abstract
The Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) was started at the University of Massachusetts two years ago to do research and technology transfer in the area of distributed, text-based information systems. The CIIR is part of the NSF State/Industry University Collaborative Research Centers program and relies heavily on government and industrial partners, in addition to federal funding. There are currently 24 members from a variety of industries and government agencies, and many of these are involved in both research and development projects. Keywords
