Abstract
Ellenberg''s ecological indicator values can aid in correlating the pattern in ordinations with that in environmental factors. An example of a reciprocal averaging ordination of park-meadow (Swedish lovang) vegetation is analyzed. The pattern of characteristic (average) indicator values for each quadrat in the stand ordination is more informative than that of individual indicator values in the species ordination. The process may be reversed, allowing some estimate of indicator values to be made for species for which such values are unknown.
