Abstract
The hyperemia which occurs in the ovary of rats following the injn. of chorionic gonadotrophin was enhanced by the addition of an extract prepared from the pitui-taries of sheep. The effective component of the pituitary extract was probably follicle-stimulating hormone. Immature rats, 28 to 32 days old and 50-60 g. were used. No positive reactions were obtained with the synergist alone. Chorionic gonadotrophin in a dosage of 0.6 I. U. or more produced positive reactions at 2 hrs. in 76% of the rats, which could be increased to 100% by addition of 0.0044 or more I.U. of synergist. Positive reactions were noted with 0.30-0.55 I.U. of chorionic gonadotrophin if 0.022 or more I.U. of synergist were used. Some degree of enhancement was also noted in 11/4 and 1 hr. test.
