Abstract
Relative oscillator strengths for 436 spectrum lines in Mn I between 3 000 Å and 4 830 Å are measured, and linked to an experimental absolute scale by Penkin. Absolute values for five lines in Si II are measured, and five Mn II lines attempted. The emission line intensities were found using as light source a rotating solid walled arc. Temperatures (between 7 400 °K and 8 900 °K) were measured by a reversal method using a coaxial flash tube. The results suggest that this arc reached good thermal equilibrium and did not give rise to appreciable excitation potential effect.
