Social Work Revolution or Evolution?

Abstract
The author criticizes Fischer's proclamation of a Kuhnian-type revolution in social work. He sees Fischer's criticism of theory and of pressing for rank empiricism and an emphasis on technique as a basis for practice as a sure way to social work's demise as a knowledge-based profession. To counter Fischer's proclamation, this article reviews the slow development of social work thinking about the person-environment interface as an evolutionary process.
