Abstract
By performing molecular-dynamics simulations of a fluid under the influence of a sinusoidal transverse force, we point out that heat flow can be induced in the absence of a temperature gradient. This heat flux is observed to be proportional to the gradient of the square of the strain-rate tensor. We show that this shear-gradient-induced heat flux is of the same order in the pressure gradient as the heat flow produced by viscous heating. Keywords
