Abstract
The area of south China has not been well explored. The ancient culture of south China has been seen as either the end result of a long folk movement coming from the south east Asian mainland, or a movement coming from central China into the north of the area. With the recent publications of laboratory dates and site reports it is now possible to examine the area in greater detail than before. This paper tries to construct a chronology for south China in relation to the appearance of pottery.
