Abstract
L. aceratus, sp. nov., a pennellid copepod parasitic on the motleystripe rainbowfish Halichoeres tenuispinis (Guenther) is described based on specimens collected at Sado Island in the Sea of Japan. Histological studies of the anterior digestive tract and its contents revealed that the parasite feeds chiefly on the host''s blood. The glandular epithelial cells in the midgut produce enzyme vesicles which are in turn released into the lumen for digestion of the ingested host blood cells. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
