Abstract
Rats, both young growing animals, and older but not senile ones, were depleted of potassium either by injection of cortexone or by dietary means. After either treatment the old animals showed more swelling and vacuolation of kidney cells than did the young ones. In addition, moreover, the treatment accelerated the development in the old rats of hyperplastic renal lesions which we regard as characteristic of early senility.
