Abstract
An outbreak of respiratory infection in a cardiac surgery unit affected 7 cases, with 3 deaths. P. aeruginosa type 10, the causative organism, was isolated from the anesthetic equipment. Possible predisposing factors were tracheostomy, corticosteroids, and prophylactic antibiotics. Measures taken to prevent a recurrence included screening of sputa on a selective medium and the use of an efficient new antiseptic containing Dipenidam. This publication has 16 references indexed in Scilit:
