Abstract
Summary Twin pregnancies have been studied in 561 cases with particular reference to presentation at birth. Forty-four per cent of the cases studied presented by both vertices. Vertex/breech presentation occurred in 27 per cent, while breeches and breech/vertex occurred in 13 per cent each. Presentation of twins is not racially determined. Fetal size does not seem to be important in causing twin breech presentation. The overall perinatal mortality was 121 per 1000. The perinatal mortality rate for those that presented by the vertex was 80 and for those that presented by the breech, 193 per 1000. There was no difference between the mean birth weights of the two groups. Further research is still necessary to reassess the value of bed rest in twin pregnancy.
