Interactions of Psychotropic Drugs in the Elderly

Abstract
The elderly patient, especially if mentally ill, is likely to be taking several medications. When some of the psychotropic drugs are used concomitantly or in combination with other agents (e.g., antihypertensives), therapeutic effects may be nullified or toxicity may result. Cautious prescribing habits and knowledge of the mechanisms of drug interactions are necessary to prevent harmful sequelae.
