Abstract
The symmetric and macroscopic fragmentation barriers have been investigated within the liquid-drop model at finite temperatures taking into account the nuclear proximity effects between the surfaces of the nascent fragments. The barrier heights and the translational kinetic energies of the fragments increase rapidly with the multiplicity of the fragmentation. For very heavy nuclei, the released energy is minimal in the binary decay channel. These general features remain at finite temperature; the barrier heights and the kinetic energies decreasing smoothly while the released energy increases. Keywords
