Abstract
If drugs or perianal or rectal disease can be excluded, the cause of constipation usually turns out to be a dyshygienic colon that has finally given up after having been ignored once too often. No overnight cure should be planned, promised, or anticipated—the patient may have to settle for a compromise between severe constipation and normal bowel function.—ARKeywords
