Abstract
REPORT OF A CASE. Patient. An army officer, 50 years old, unmarried, was under my care during the last two weeks of his life. For much of the previous history I am indebted to Dr. A. Howard Smith, of Marietta, Ohio. History. Both parents died of heart disease. The patient had spent most of his life at army posts in the west. He is said to have been a neat, sober, quiet, well-balanced man. There is a probable history of syphilitic infection twentyfive years ago. About ten years ago he was operated on for fistula in ano. He had considerable purulent discharge from the ears and had a mastoid operation many years ago. Ten years ago he was retired from active service. During the last two and a half years he served as a recruiting officer.
