Abstract
A maize herbicide applied by a spinning disc applicator was introduced to a group of small farmers using ox-plowing to cultivate maize and cotton in Zambia. Technical and economic implications were studied. At another site the independent use of herbicides by some small-scale farmers was examined. At present prices a maize herbicide was unattractive to cultivators already owning oxen, but appeared more favorable to those depending on tractors for cultivation, for which cash has to be paid. Labor profile data supported some farmers'' comments that an herbicide was needed for cotton more than for maize. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
