Abstract
Drug-resistant bacteria have been on the offensive for years, with few new compounds available for a counterattack. But at a recent meeting, pharmaceutical companies introduced a promising crop of new antibiotics, with a variety of ways to beat back resistance. Whether companies have enough incentives to develop the most effective anti-resistance strategies—narrow-spectrum antibiotics—remains an open question. See sidebar (p. 725).Keywords
