Abstract
Studies on the effect of in-vivo O2 under high pressure on erythrocytes were made in tocopherol-deficient and tocopherol-supplemented mice. Hemolysis occurred only in tocopherol-deficient mice exposed to O2 under high pressure. In-vitro lytic sensitivity of red cells to H2O2 paralleled their in-vivo lytic sensitivity to hyperoxia. The in-vivo formation of lipid peroxides in tocopherol-deficient mice during hyperoxia, an effect that preceded hemolysis was established. The relationship between hemolysis and lipid peroxidation was discussed. This publication has 50 references indexed in Scilit:
