Abstract
The authors describe a novel method for characterisation of the accumulated polarisation mode dispersion along optical fibres. The technique is based on measurement of differential group delay using wavelength tunable polarisation optical time domain reflectometry. The method requires access to only one end of the fibre and is applied here to characterise a 23.9 km fibre link. Keywords
