Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 50-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of bilateral pleural effusions and pedal edema.He was well until 9 1/2 years earlier, when cervical lymphadenopathy developed, with the superior-venacava syndrome. Microscopical examination of a biopsy specimen of a lymph node revealed Hodgkin's disease, nodular-sclerosis type. A staging laparotomy showed involvement of the spleen and a paraaortic lymph node; a clinical stage of IIIB was assigned. Radiation treatment was administered to a mantle field, with delivery of approximately 4000 rad to the mediastinum and the right side of the heart.
