Abstract
This paper is intended to provide an overview of the current practice in Reservoir Characterization and monitoring, with particular reference to two fields which are currently attracting considerable attention. Examples of these case studies, as well as new tools, are discussed. The areas of needed research in the field are identified, as well as programs aiming at addressing these research problems, especially with reference to the experience gained so far with the FARM project in the Foinaven field.
