Abstract
The cyclic pressure - tension records as reported for the dynamic stressing of liquids by the `tube-arrest' and `bullet-piston' methods are explained in terms of the growth of cavitation bubbles. This explanation, which invokes a hydrodynamic argument based on incompressible theory, is shown to accord with experimental results and clarifies previous indications in the literature. Keywords
