GLOBAL SUPERMARKETS

Abstract
Today, global supermarkets are a growing reality. This is the result of an international marketing drive by a select group of retailers, which includes Wal-Mart, Royal Ahold, Metro, and Carrefour, to globalize food retailing. Their goal is to retail an ever-larger share of the world's consumer food purchases: a world market that reached an estimated $2.7 trillion by the mid-1990s.
