Abstract
Karyotype analyses of fresh bone marrow of a patient in the acute terminal phase of chronic myeloid leukemia revealed that a very high percentage of the metaphase figures contained the Ph1 chromosome. Examination of a fresh smear of the same specimen permitted identification of the type and number of hematopoietic cells in mitosis. Correlation of the data indicated that erythropoietic as well as granulopoietic elements have this distinctive karyotype, suggesting a common ancestor for both cell lines. Keywords
