Abstract
A theoretical discussion of the magnetisation as a function of impurity concentration for the alloys NiRh, NiRu, NiIr and NiOs is presented. The various features of these curves are attributed to the interplay of several influences including the larger band width of the impurities relative to that of Ni, the relatively more repulsive potentials on Ru and Os than Rh and Ir, and the greater spin-orbit coupling parameters of Ir and Os. The agreement between theory and experiment is satisfactory in all cases of reasonable values of the parameters. The resultant value of one of these parameters, the energy differences between the Fermi energy and the top of the majority spin-band in pure Ni is 46 MeV, in excellent agreement with experimental photoemission estimates. Keywords
