Abstract
This paper describes a contingency selection technique which uses the load curtailment required to raise bus voltages to the pre-contingency level as an indication of the severity of a contingency. The load curtailment approach can provide a measure of the effect of a contingency on bus voltage profile of the system. The effectiveness of this technique was investigated using the studies of two practical test systems. The system studies illustrate that the approach of this paper provides a reliable contingency list. Keywords
