Abstract
The mitogenic action of ovine and bovine prolactin hormone was studied in the thyroid, parathyroid and thymus glands of chicks. Both hormones at lowest dosage (1.5 IU) increased the mitotic rate in majority of these organs, but it failed to accelerate the mitotic incidence further or were almost ineffective with the higher dosages (5 and 10 IU). Ovine prolactin showed a higher mitogenic response than that seen with the bovine hormone. Prolactin at optimal dosages probably promotes mitosis in these organs of chicks. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
