Abstract
Virginia pines in Patrick Co., Virginia were mechanically damaged to test primary attraction. The following species were trapped in greatest number: Pityogenes plagiatus, Ips avulsus, I. grandicollis, Hylastes porculus, Monochamus carolinensis, Cossonus corticola , and Hylobius pales . Traps placed at treated trees caught over 99% of all insects trapped. Evidence is presented regarding non-random flight and characteristics of the primary host attractant are hypothesized. Keywords
