Abstract
A wear map is constructed from the thermomechanical wear theory. This wear map can be used as a wear criteria to predict the transition of wear of ceramics as well as some steels. Maximum principal stress theory and von Mises criteria are used as failure criteria to make the wear map. The theory is used to present wear maps with the coordinates of dimensionless Hertz pressure and a friction heating condition parameter, Gt which are shown to be related to the traditional PV product design criteria. These wear maps are compared with the experimental data of other researchers. Both data sets show good agreement in trend and magnitude. Keywords
