Abstract
This paper reviews the literature, presents information on helminths of Minnesota cottontails, lists all reported helminths of cottontails, and gives keys for their identification. 97 cottontails (Sylvilagus fioridanus mearnsi) were examined, and 15 ssp. of helminths were recovered. The trematode, Hasstilesia tricolor, occurred in 1% of the rabbits; the cestodes, Citto-taenia pectinata in 4%, C. perplexa in 34%, C. variabilis in 28%, Multiceps sp. in 4%, and Taenia pisiformis in 27 %; the nematodes, Dermatoxys veligera in 28%, Nematodirus triangularis in 2%, Obeliscoides cuniculi 24%, Passalurus ambiguus in 2%, P. nonannulatus in 18%, Physaloptera sp. in 1%, Trichostrongylus affinis in 5%, T. calcaratus in 3%, and Trichuris leporis in 13%. No particular pathological effects due to helminths were noted. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
