Inheritance of Resistance to DDT in Blattella germanica1

Abstract
Reciprocal crosses have been made between an insecticide-susceptible strain and a DDT-resistant strain of the German cockroach (Blattella germanica (L.)) in order to study the mechanism of inheritance of resistance to DDT. Parental and F1 populations were tested with DDT by dipping in insecticide suspensions of various concentrations. Dosage-mortality data were obtained and plotted as fitted regression lines. Data from back-crosses and F2 crosses have also been obtained. It was concluded that the data are strongly indicative that one major locus and perhaps a number of modifying factors are responsible for DDT resistance. An explanation for the sexual difference in resistance is given.
