Abstract
In 866 consecutive referred ambulatory patients, 63 (7.3%) had either functional hypoglycemia or hyperventilation syndrome. In 19, both disorders contributed to the patients'' episodic symptoms. Analysis of symptoms revealed similarities and differences in both entities. Reproduction of symptoms by voluntary hyperventilation and /or insulin administration is advocated for accurate diagnosis and psychotherapeutic effect. The relationship of anxiety to functional hypoglycemia and the hyperventilation syndrome is discussed. Keywords
