A failure to replicate the inhibitory effects of a second stimulus following the primary stimulus to react.

Abstract
Helson and Steger (1962) found that a 2nd visual stimulus exerted a retroactive inhibitory effect upon simple reaction time to a prior visual stimulus. An attempt was made to obtain this effect in 2 experiments. The 1st employed procedures similar to the original experiment, while the 2nd tested the influence of 2 procedural variables. In each case the data failed to reveal any inhibitory effect of the 2nd stimulus. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
