Abstract
The ionization constant of liquid ammonia has been measured with a concentration cell between −77 and −36 °C. Between these temperatures, pK increased from 33.1 ± 0.3 at −36 °C to 37.8 ± 0.3 at −77 °C. These measured data confirm those calculated with thermodynamic values of liquid ammonia, ammonium ion, and amide ion. The formula pK = 9.0 + 5.7 (103/T) can represent the values of the pK of liquid ammonia for the studied temperatures.
