Abstract
The focus of this paper is to characterize the performance of a RAKE receiver tracking the L strongest multipath components and to quantify the effects of the chip rate on spread spectrum systems operating in dense multipath frequency-selective fading environments. Analytical expressions for the symbol error probability are derived in terms of the chip rate, multipath spread of the channel and an arbitrary number of combined paths. Keywords
