Abstract
In an attempt to explain some of the anomalous properties of vitreous silica, measurements have been made of the reflection spectra of quartz, cristobalite and vitreous silica from room temperature to 1100°C. It has been found possible to describe the experimental observations in terms of the force constants and geometry of a simplified model of silica, changes in the angle between neighbouring silicon-oxygen tetrahedra being particularly important. Keywords
