Über den Chemismus der Wiesner-Reaktion auf Lignin / On the Chemistry of the Wiesner Reaction on Lignin

Abstract
It is demonstrated that the Wiesner reaction (detection of lignin with phloroglucinol/HCl) is due not only to cinnamic aldehyde but also to cinnamic alcohol units of the lignin. The limits of detection of some compounds related to lignin with phloroglucinol/HCl, naphthoresor-cinol/HCl and orcinol/HCl are determined. The chemistry of the reactions is discussed.
