Abstract
The possible influence of enzyme induction on the changes in the pharmacokinetic of rifampicin have been investigated in comparison with the effect of a known enzyme inducer (phenobarbitone) on the kinetic of rifampicin itself. A similar trend to a decrease of rifampicin half-life time has been observed both in subjects treated with rifampicin and phenobarbitone. Bilirubin serum levels parallel the rifampicin level curve. In spite of the lack of statistical significance, the possible reasons for which are discussed, the trend seems to give further support to the hypothesis of an enzyme-inducing effect of rifampicin. Keywords
