Abstract
ALCOHOLISM is a medicosocial problem in that it can impair physical health as well as destroy the psychologic and social (work and family) fabric of a person's existence. In the professions, besides medicine, the law has been used as one of the social factors in cure and prevention. As recently as June 17, 1968, the Supreme Court of the United States, in the decision of Powell vs. Texas ruled that that publicly drunk alcoholics could be considered criminals and treated accordingly. The effect of this decision has been tempered by legal forces that seek to eliminate all public drunkenness laws . . .Keywords
