Abstract
An oleanane type triterpenoid saponin, named tubeimoside I was isolated from tubers of Bolbostemma paniculatum (Maxim.) Franguet (Cucurbitaceae), a Chinese folk medicine, "Tu Bei Mu". Its novel cyclic structure, including the chirality of the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarate moiety, is reported. The name cyclic bisdemoside is proposed for this type of saponin. The potent Solubilizing effect of this compound is also described. Keywords
