Outstanding features of Chrysler's new electronic fuel and engine control system

Abstract
Chrysler is introducing a new fuel injection system, a system which, in our opinion, represents a definite addition to the state of the art because of the number of unique subsystems which it contains. Further, it is a complete electronic engine control. It differs in the overall from all othe~ concepts in that it is a single point, fully electronically controlled, continuous flow system. It differs in other significant details as well. For instance: (1) The air and fuel going into the engine are each electronically measured both to achieve maximum metering precision and to minimize the effect of manufacturing tolerances and wear on mechanical components. (2) Mixture quality is achieved by arranging the throttle blades and bores in geometrical relationships which makes the inducted air shear, entrain, and evenly distribute the fuel to each cylinder. (3) The base fuel/air ratio is automatically established individually on each car by the electronics. This technique eliminates the need for a manifold absolute pressure sensor. Some other portions of this electronic engine control are direct derivatives of electronic devices Chrvsler has used reliably for several years. Electronic ignition. and electronic spark advance are examples of these.
