Neurotropic Effect of 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene in Transplacental Carcinogenesis

Abstract
Single intravenous injection of 15 mg/kg 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene into pregnant rats on day 21 after conception caused numerous tumors in their offspring. In 14 of 21 offspring, the transplacentally induced tumors were neurogenic. These data suggested that, in transplacental carcinogenesis, a tropism could occur which was not inherent in the effect of a given carcinogen in postnatal life.
