Abstract
The results of respiratory function tests on 243 patients done as part of theassessmentprior to thoracotomy for carcinoma of the lung are reviewed, with the surgical decision in each case and the post-operative outcome (where appropriate). The principles are evolved which could be usedin devising a method to classify patients for thoracotomy into four categories of risk of cardiopulmonary complications
