Abstract
Using an integral representation of the vector potential A and the method of images, a simple analytic expression is obtained which describes the field near the axis of symmetry of a coil in the presence of iron of relative permeability mu . Comparison is made between the results and those obtained by the exact solution of the extremes of infinite permeability and unit permeability (no iron). The advantages of this method are discussed. Keywords
