Abstract
Effects of interfacial reaction on deformation and fracture behaviour of tungsten fibre-nickel matrix composites were investigated. The deformation and fracture behaviour at room temperature was classified into three stages according to the extent of interfacial reaction. The influence of the rate of the reaction on the tensile strength and elongation was discussed, and then factors for deviating the observed values of tensile strength from those calculated assuming that the reaction would not occur were pointed out for each of the stages. Effects of interfacial reaction on deformation and fracture behaviour of the composites were found to depend upon the ductility and size of the fibre. Keywords
