Abstract
A 55 Mn NMR investigation has been made on the interface magnetism in Fe/Mn artificial metallic superlattice (AMS). The signal associated with the ferromagnetically ordered Mn sites was observed in a wide frequency range. The chemical composition profile was extracted from the distribution of 55 Mn internal fields, and it is suggested that the compositional mixing occurs over a wide range (at least 15 Å) near the interface in Fe/Mn AMS. From this, the interface alloy region was found to be ferromagnetic even in the Mn dense region, which cannot be expected for FeMn alloys in the thermal equilibrium. Thus it is concluded that a new-type alloy is created near the interface in the Fe/Mn AMS by making multilayers. Keywords
