Abstract
To the combs of White Leghorn, Rhode Island Red and Barred Rock chicks, testosterone propionate in oil was administered once daily for 7 days. The dosage range for the White Leghorns was 2-20,480 [gamma] and for the other 2 breeds was 40-20,480 [gamma]. The White Leghorn comb is the most reactive when evaluated by any of the 3 criteria: 1. The minimal amt. of hormone necessary to produce a statistically significant increment in comb wt.; 2. The amts. necessary to produce a certain arbitrary slope of response on a log dose-response basis; and 3. The maximum attainable slope or response calculated as a log dose-response relationship. Possible factors for the differences in comb responses are postulated. Keywords
