Abstract
The solution of the boundary layer equations for the flow associated with a rotating sphere is considered and an approximate solution is obtained. The solution on either hemisphere is thought to be valid up to the immediate vicinity of the equator where it is invalidated by the interaction with the flow from the other hemisphere. A short appendix gives the flow due to a semi-infinite cylinder rotating in a uniform stream. Keywords
