Large amounts of excessive helium and neon have been found in the veined chondrite Pantar. The absolute amounts as well as the isotopic compositions are similar to those found in Staroye Pesyanoe and Kapoeta. The meteorite shows light areas which are surrounded by dark regions. The dark color is caused by tiny veins mainly consisting of newly formed troilite, which presumably has been produced during a thermometamorphosis and simultaneous addition of material. An investigation of the separated fractions shows the excessive helium and neon to be contained almost completely within the dark fraction, i. e. the part of the meteorite which has undergone severe metamorphic changes. The ammonium content of Pantar is the same as that of other chondrites. Problems related to the existence of primordial gases in meteorites are discussed in view of the results presented.
